Autumn in the Vall Fosca
From the Casa Bigodé refuge in Envall, I continue working on the project ‘Enllumenant el buit’ (Illuminating the Void), a historical investigation into the village of Envall in the Vall Fosca. The village was uninhabited in the ’60s and is currently undergoing a repopulation process. The research will culminate in an installation in the old Romanesque church of the village, converted into a public facility.
Memory is identity. The significance of the “small” lies in its ability to tell us about the “large” and, by proposing another way of being in the world, provides us with a key to understanding the present and envisioning an alternative future to neoliberal destruction. Who are we? What do we want to remember? What do we want to convey? How do we organize ourselves in the face of fragile digital memory and the specter of possible global amnesia? What will be the role of the countryside in the coming decades? What do we want to pass on to the next generations?
